My Captain [2026]

THIS TRACK WILL BE RELEASED ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25TH. YOU CAN LISTEN TO IT AHEAD OF TIME BY SUBSCRIBING TO OUR MEMBER’S SITE UNDER THE “SUBSCRIBE” TAB.

“My Captain” is the second single from Kendall Street Company’s upcoming folk album, Yodeling Astroman. The album was mixed and co-produced by long-time band collaborator Scott Gordon (Ringo Starr, Alanis Morissette). While the first single “Don’t Wanna Be Gone" turns inward to feelings of mindfulness and a longing for home, “My Captain” explores themes of escape and adventure gone wrong, only to come to the same conclusion. Sonically, this song features distorted electric guitar and intense saxophone, symbolizing a ship’s horn and later the chaos taking place at sea.

LYRICS:
Off to sea once more I try to capture lost time I left on the shore
I falter and crack as the wind slaps my back and the ship carries on through the night
I rip out a page from an old sailor’s guide stars in the sky still burning my eyes
Purging my guts with the waves rolling high gesture to Mary and say my goodbyes
Goodbye I am now
Offer me friendship and I’ll spin you a tale a tale that takes place in the darkest of realms
Captain my captain he wasn’t so bad till the day came when he came for my head
Mutiny oh captain no I wouldn’t do that we’re all here together at last
Drifting and sailing and surrounded by sea oh please my captain take mercy on me
My captain take mercy on me
Kicking and bashing he ties me with rope
Foam at the mouth and whacks me with soap
Dare be the fool who worships the sea
A sailors life it’s not cracked up to be
Oh how I yearn for Lassy May back home
My crusty ol’ mutt and Uncle Pappy Le Bon
Forever I sail through this cursed sea
As the ship carries on through the night
As my ship carries on through the night
As my ship carries on through the night
As I kiss my life goodbye
